Joao Cancelo lays on an ASSIST in his first start for Bayern Munich in their clash with Mainz ... just a day after completing a move to the German champions following his training ground BUST-UP with Man City boss Pep Guardiola

Joao Cancelo made his first start for Bayern Munich on Wednesday night and provided an assist - after completing a move from Manchester City on deadline day.

Cancelo joined the German giants on an initial loan deal with a £61million buy option at the end of the season, after falling-out with City boss Pep Guardiola.

Sportsmail exclusively revealed on Monday that Cancelo had a heated training ground bust-up with City boss Pep Guardiola, which prompted the full-back to seek an exit.

The confrontation occurred after Cancelo was snubbed during Manchester City's FA Cup fourth round victory against Arsenal on Friday, having fallen down the pecking order at the Etihad despite an exceptional campaign last term.

The full-back has voiced his frustration in recent weeks, disappointed at a lack of game time under Guardiola, and is believed to have become disruptive within the Premier League champions' dressing room.

And the Portuguese defender was thrown straight into Bayern's starting XI for their German Cup last-16 tie with Mainz.

Cancelo lined up at left-back for Julian Nagelsmann's side, replacing Alphonso Davies in the starting XI.

He impressed, assisting Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting's opener for Bayern after just 17 minutes of the game.

They went on to win the match 4-0 to secure their place in the quarter-finals of the competition, thanks to further goals from Jamal Musiala, Leroy Sane and Alphonso Davies.

Cancelo was eventually withdrawn for Davies in the 71st minute after a promising start to his career in Germany.

Upon signing for the German champions, Cancelo had said on Tuesday: 'Bayern is a great club, one of the best in the world. I know this team lives for titles.

'It's enormous motivation for me to now play alongside these extraordinary players in a team.

'I'm also driven by the hunger for success. I'll give my best for Bayern.'

However, Cancelo denied that a training ground bust-up with Guardiola led to him leaving City

He told reporters in Germany at his unveiling: 'I've not had much game time in the past few weeks, which influenced my decision. It has nothing to do with my relationship with Pep.'
