A 24-year-old Brainerd man faces several criminal charges after allegedly breaking into a residence and assaulting a woman, telling her if he wanted her dead she would be dead.

Nijee Donte Loving was charged May 4 in Crow Wing County District Court in Brainerd with two counts of felony first-degree burglary and assaulting a person in a dwelling, felony making threats of violence and misdemeanor domestic assault and disorderly conduct.

According to the criminal complaint filed against Loving, the Crow Wing County Sheriff’s dispatch center reported an open 911 call at 2:46 a.m. May 1, stating a female wanted an officer at a residence on Pine Street in Brainerd. The female did not say anything else and a male was heard in the background, who was not yelling but being forceful. The female could be heard saying, “Stop,” and then the call was disconnected. The woman called 911 again and stated Loving broke into her residence and, when he saw she called 911, he left. Officers located Loving near the residence.

As the Brainerd officer approached the residence he noticed the window of the front door was completely smashed. The officer made contact with the victim, who was standing in the living room area holding her 2-week-old infant. The officer noticed she was upset and crying.

The victim told the officer she was with Loving earlier that night and he became intoxicated. She said she did not like to be around Loving when he was intoxicated so she went home.

Loving showed up at her residence and demanded to be let inside. The victim told Loving to leave, refused to let him in and the door was locked. Loving began banging on the door, punched out the glass window of the entrance door, unlocked the door by reaching through the window and then entered the residence uninvited. The victim said she was sitting on the couch feeding her infant child when Loving broke into the residence.

Once Loving was inside, he stood over the victim, began yelling at her and glass fell off of him and onto her which caused her to receive two cuts, one on her left leg and one on her right leg. The victim said Loving was yelling that if he wanted her dead, she would be dead, according to the complaint. The victim made an excuse to go downstairs to get her cigarettes and when she did she called 911. She hid the cellphone on her and came back upstairs. The victim stated she was fearful Loving would harm the infant if he knew she had called 911.

Loving posted $3,000 bond with conditions and was released from Crow Wing County Jail. His next court hearing is May 18.
