Francis Mossman, Actor Known For ‘Spartacus,’ Dead at 33

Francis “Frankie” Mossman, an actor known for his roles in TV shows like Spartacus and The Horizon, died last Saturday (August 14) in Sydney, Australia. The New Zealand star was 33.

Mossman’s passing was confirmed in a GoFundMe post organized by his two brothers, Laurence and Jeremy Mossman, in order to raise money for the actor’s repatriation and funeral costs. At this time, the cause of death has not been disclosed.

“With heavy hearts and much sadness, we learned of Francis’ passing last Saturday 14th August in Sydney, Australia,” Laurence and Jeremy wrote in remembrance. “Francis was an energetic force and much-loved brother and son. He was a well-respected member of the acting community and found a supportive and endearing family community in Sydney. His smile and energetic presence will be sorely missed by those lucky enough to have known him.”

The actor got his first role acting on the 2006 soap opera Shortland Street in New Zealand, appearing on one episode. He on to appear in other New Zealand entertainment like the TV series The Amazing Extraordinary Friends and the film The Richmond Family Massacre.

Mossman is best known for his role on the Starz series Spartacus, where he portrayed Vitus. He appeared in four episodes total on the show. Then, from 2013 to 2017, Mossman had a starring role in the Australian web series The Horizon, playing Stevie Hughes.

His last credited role was in the 2020 short Dis-Connect, where he played Luke.

“Francis’ mother’s final wish is to see her son one last time before he is laid to rest. With your help and generosity, we want to make this happen for her,” the GoFundMe page reads. “The money raised here will contribute towards bringing Francis back to NZ and the funeral costs.”
