Attention, combat boot-wearing ‘90s teens: The hour of your revival is at hand. As Variety reports, MTV Studios is launching a revival of Daria for the even sicker, sadder world of 2018. The announcement comes with the revival of two other late ‘90s late-night (and weekday afternoon rerun) classics: Æon Flux, whose live-action TV revival from Teen Wolf’s Jeff Davis was announced last week, and a “back to basics” revival of The Real World, which never really went away, just descended into the vodka-soaked abyss of reality-show gimmickry. (The season finale of Real World Seattle: Bad Blood aired on January 4, 2017.)

Inside Amy Schumer writer Grace Edwards is helming the Daria revival, tentatively titled Daria & Jodie, which will revolve around both Daria and the character of Jodie Landon, the overachieving girlfriend of football player Mack Mackenzie (and one of the few Black students at Lawndale High) who attempts to befriend our cynical-beyond-her-years heroine. The official description is below.

“DARIA & JODIE”

The iconic animated franchise is reinvented through the eyes of heroine Daria Morgendorffer and one of her closest friends Jodie Landon. These two smart young women take on the world, with their signature satirical voice while deconstructing popular culture, social classes, gender and race.

The participation of series creators Glenn Eichler and Susie Lewis Lynn is still TBD.
