16 inches of snow dumped on northern Michigan in past 24 hours

Heavy lake effect snow is making part of northern Michigan look like January.

North-northwest winds focused the heavy lake effect around the Traverse City area, with the heaviest lake effect falling from Leelanau County into Benzie County and southwest Grand Traverse County. Another very heavy area of snow fell south and east of Traverse City in Fife Lake, Kalkaska County and the Mancelona area.
