Heavy lake effect snow is making part of northern Michigan look like January.
North-northwest winds focused the heavy lake effect around the Traverse City area, with the heaviest lake effect falling from Leelanau County into Benzie County and southwest Grand Traverse County. Another very heavy area of snow fell south and east of Traverse City in Fife Lake, Kalkaska County and the Mancelona area.
Snowfall totals over the past 24 hours range between six and 16 inches in the heaviest snow areas.
Here’s a look at the snowfall reports of total snow in the past 24 hours.
