ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – A hiker is safe after a search and rescue effort in the Sandia Mountains. Earlier Sunday afternoon, first responders were called out to the La Luz Trail after reports of an exhausted hiker.
The hiker says she ran out of water, started feeling fatigued, and her cell phone battery was low, so she decided to call somebody and play it safe. Thanks to some Good Samaritans, she was able to make it down safely.
“Luckily, I ran into two guys and they gave me water and I felt fine, and then I was able to walk back down the rest of the trail, and I heard everyone was looking for me and I was like, ‘oh, no,’,” hiker Libby Flores said. The Bernalillo County Fire Department reminds the public that if they go hiking, always let someone know where you’re hiking, go with a partner, and bring plenty of water.
