STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — The 2021 Grammy Awards will be postponed due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

The Recording Academy originally scheduled the 63rd annual ceremony for Jan. 31 with no live audience; only presenters and performers were going to be on-site during the show. Nominated artists wouldn’t have been allowed on-site, and would have probably appeared and accepted awards remotely.

Organizers have not announced a new date, but sources say the event may take place in March.

Beyonce, Dua Lipa, Taylor Swift and Roddy Ricch are among the artists who garnered multiple nominations.

Trevor Noah was scheduled to host the ceremony in California. However, the state experienced a spike in COVID-19 cases following Thanksgiving and the holiday season.

For months, the Grammys — billed as “music’s biggest night” — have been contending with staging a major awards show that normally attracts more than 18,000 attendees during a pandemic.
