ILLINOIS — After enduring the snowiest three weeks since 1979, Illinois is in for even more snow on Sunday. The National Weather Service said 2 to 3 inches of snow — with periods of heavy snowfall — could hit DuPage, Will, Kane, Kendall, Lake and northern and southern Cook counties.

Snow is expected to start Sunday afternoon, with brief periods of heavy snow possible between 3 and 8 p.m. The snow could mix with or even change to rain for areas south of I-80. With ground temperatures likely to remain below freezing, that could mean slippery roads and dangerous travel. Wind gusts up to 30 mph are also possible.

Drivers should prepare for extra travel time and check the road conditions before leaving.
