Hewitt-Trussville quarterback Paul Tyson, the great grandson of Alabama coaching legend Paul "Bear" Bryant, has committed to play football at Alabama.
The 6-foot-4, 215-pounder announced his decision on Twitter.
"I felt the same calling my great grandfather had when he was asked to come home," he wrote on Twitter.
Tyson completed 238-of-336 passes for 3,392 yards with 36 touchdowns and four interceptions last season while leading the Huskies to a second-straight 10-0 regular season and to the second round of the Class 7A playoffs. A rising senior, he is currently rated as a 4-star prospect and one of the state's elite prospects in the Class of 2019.
Tyson becomes the second 2019 in-state quarterback to make an early commitment, after Pinson Valley's Bo Nix committed to Auburn in January.
"Honestly, what I'm looking for is a place where I'm a good fit and I can help win a national championship," Tyson said earlier this week in an interview with AL.com. "That's my goal one day. It's always been my dream to lead my team to a national championship."
Tyson said he plans to graduate in December and enroll in January.
Alabama now has seven commitments for the Class of 2019, including Hewitt-Trussville offensive lineman Pierce Quick. Other committed players are Troup County (Ga.) linebacker King Mwikuta, Lafayette (Miss.) athlete Brandon Turange and Kathleen (Fla.) defensive back Brendan Grant. All are rated as 4- or 5-star prospects.
Bama also got a commitment from defensive lineman Rashad Cheny earlier today.
