ATLANTA, GA — As Atlanta police and residents react to Friday's shooting of a black man by white police officers, an official report determined the cause of death and the shooting victim's wife spoke out on the fatal confrontation.

An autopsy report offered details on the death of Rayshard Brooks, 27, who was shot by Atlanta police Friday when he resisted arrest after failing a field sobriety test. Brooks died after two gunshot wounds to the back, according to the Fulton County Medical Examiner's office.

He died of organ damage and blood loss, reported WSB-TV. His death has been classified as a homicide. Brooks, a father of three girls and a stepson, celebrated his daughter's 8th birthday on Friday before he was killed.

In an interview with ABC News, Tomika Miller said her husband was a family man who believed in peace.

“I wish he could have made it. I wish they could have had sympathy or compassion," Miller said. "I just feel like they didn't have to be so aggressive."

She said losing her husband has made her a statistic.

"I feel like I'm stuck being a single black parent. I'm being forced to do it by myself. This was not a choice. They took my husband away," Miller said. "They destroyed my family. No justice will ever get that back. This is another black family being broken."

Fulton County District Attorney Paul Howard released a statement about it Sunday.

“Today, members of my staff had the unfortunate duty of witnessing the autopsy of Mr. Brooks as part of our continued investigation," Howard said.

“Because this is a homicide investigation, there are several technical requirements that must be met before we are able to reach a decision. That includes the confirmation of the ballistics involved and obtaining a preliminary report from the Medical Examiner.”

The officer who shot Brooks, Garrett Rolfe, has been fired, reported WXIA.

Rolfe was with the police department for six years and during that time had trained in de-escalation tactics, according to his department record.

He also took coursework in April in cultural awareness. This past January, he passed a course entitled "Use of Deadly Force."

District Attorney Howard said he will decide by Wednesday of next week if he will charge Rolfe with a crime.

Atlanta Police Chief Erika Shields also resigned on Saturday, less than 24 hours after the shooting occurred.
