Canada’s Cassie Sharpe took home gold in women’s ski halfpipe at the 2018 Winter Olympics in South Korea.
The 25-year-old from Comox, B.C. put up a score of 95.80 on her second of three runs. Her score was more than enough to claim the gold medal on Tuesday.
Marie Martinod of France took silver with her best run of 92.60 while Brita Sigourney of the U.S. captured bronze with a score of 91.60.
“I’ve been training so hard to get that run consistent and I just wanted to come out here strong with that first run. After I landed that I was like ‘OK, this is it, you can do this, if you land the second run you can bump your score,'” Sharpe said of her gold medal finish. “That was kind of the moment where I was like ‘I can’t believe I’m here’. It was wild.
“It hasn’t really sunk in yet, but it’s just an incredible feeling. Just putting all my hard work into this, it’s just everything wrapped up into one,” the skier said.

Fellow Canadian freestyle skier Roz Groenewoud, who was competing with a broken arm, finished 10th with a score of 70.60.
In 2015, Sharpe made her appearance known after capturing silver at the FIS World Championships. The freestyle skier went on to a World Cup gold in the same year. Sharpe took home her first X Games gold in 2016 in Oslo.
