On Monday, Harrisburg Mayor Eric Papenfuse, Harrisburg Fire Chief Brian Enterline and other city officials held a swearing-in ceremony for 10 new firefighters that have completed training and that will now join the Harrisburg Bureau of Fire. And a number of Harrisburg firefighters were also honored at an awards ceremony on Monday.

“Today’s an exciting day for the Bureau of Fire because we have not only the honor of swearing in these 10 new firefighters but we’re also honoring our firefighters for service that was above and beyond what the call of duty is,” Harrisburg Fire Chief Brian Enterline said at the ceremony on Monday. Enterline has been with the department for 20 years.

The new firefighters are: Timothy J. Wolcott, Nicholas A. Hurst, Austin C. Howard, Nathaniel M. Barbolish, Brayden L. Byers, Jared L. Day, Justin B. Barnes, Cody M. Durham, Joseph S. Kuhn and Connor B. Davis.

With the addition of the new firefighters, the department now has 88 firefighters, the largest number of firefighters in the city of Harrisburg in 10 years.

Papenfuse said that for the first time the city will be offering bonuses to all of its first responders, which will be ready in another week or so.

“On behalf of all of the residents of the city of Harrisburg I want to say thank you to the bureau of fire by responding to calls at any time of day and night,” Harrisburg Mayor Eric Papenfuse said at a ceremony on Monday. “You’ve kept the city running. You’ve allowed us to provide essential services and you’ve allowed the rest of us to have some semblance of normalcy during these difficult times. It’s a true sacrifice but you’re sacrifice has gone noticed by everyone in the city.”
