Rosebank man stabbed, shot to death in Brooklyn

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- A 47-year-old Staten Island man was shot and stabbed near the Barclays Center in Brooklyn on Wednesday, Sept. 20, according to the NYPD.

Steven Vargas was unconscious but responsive, with a stab wound to the chest and multiple gunshot wounds to the torso, when police officers arrived to the intersection of Atlantic Avenue and 4th Avenue at approximately 10 p.m.,  according to the NYPD's Deputy Commissioner of Public Information.

EMS transported Vargas to Brooklyn Hospital Center where he was pronounced deceased, police said.

The family declined to comment at their home in Rosebank on Friday night.

NYPD ASKS FOR ASSISTANCE IDENTIFYING SUSPECT

The NYPD is asking the public's assistance identifying the male in the surveillance footage in regard to the homicide.

According to the NYPD, the unidentified male is described as white, between 40  and 50 years old, and was last seen wearing a dark-colored jacked, dark-colored jeans, with dark-shoes and a white shirt.
