Modest Mouse is returning to the stage following the death of their drummer, Jeremiah Green.

Green’s death was confirmed in the early hours of New Year’s Day, with the band releasing a statement saying their friend ‘laid down to rest and simply faded out.’

‘Please appreciate all the love you give, get, have given, and will get. Above all, Jeremiah was about love. We love you,’ they told their fans.

While the group is yet to comment further on the heartbreaking news, they said they have ‘a bunch of pretty words’ about their late bandmate, which ‘will come later.’

His death at the age of 45 came just days after Green’s mother revealed the musician was battling stage four cancer, asking fans to pray for him.

The Washington-based band have now shared that their first performance since losing Green will be as headliners for the US festival In Between Days, which takes place on August 19-20 in Massachusetts.

Comprising of only-remaining founding member Isaac Brock, Tom Peloso, Russell Higbee, Ben Massarella, and Simon O’Connor, the group assured they’re ‘committed’ to performing at the event.

‘Modest Mouse’s management has indicated to us that the band is committed to performing at In Between Days,’ the festival organisers said, via SPIN.

‘Out of respect for the band, any other messages or statements regarding personnel or specifics will come from the band itself at a later date,’ they added.

‘In Between Days has made a donation to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in memory of Jeremiah Green.’

Their set will surely include many crowd pleasers, with the band’s hits including the universally-loved Float On, plus The World at Large, Ocean Breathes Salty, Dramamine, and Missed the Boat.

As well as Modest Mouse, In Between Days will feature performances from acts including Lord Huron, Metric, Trampled by Turtles, Blitzen Trapper, and Cautious Clay.

Tributes flooded in for Green once news of his death broke, with fans offering their condolences to the surviving members of the band.

Johnny Marr also hailed Green as ‘the most creative musician I’ve ever met,’ posting a throwback photo of his late friend alongside an emotional caption on social media.

Marr wrote: ‘The great Jeremiah Green. My friend, bandmate, and the most creative musician I ever met.’

The Smiths guitarist played alongside Green in Modest Mouse between 2006 and 2009, and they grew close after spending time together while on the road.
