After a 94-day battle in the hospital, actor Nick Cordero tragically passed away on Sunday as a result of COVID-19 complications. The Broadway star was 41 and leaves behind his wife Amanda Kloots and their newborn son, Elvis.

Kloots, who has kept fans updated on Cordero’s progress over the past several weeks, shared the devastating news to her Instagram on Sunday. She also shared a video from the last 95 days of Cordero’s life, as well as another clip highlighting the couple’s sweet love story. In the six-minute video, a compilation of photos shows special moments shared between the two, from “day 1” to their very last year together.

“Nick always said we were completely different people that normally would never be together. We challenged each other and in doing so caused each other to grow and change,” Kloots wrote in the caption. “We pushed each other’s buttons in the best of ways. He would always look at me and say, ‘I’m the luckiest.’ Well darling, I was the luckiest to get to spend five years with you and to share a son that will always remind me of you.”

Here’s a look back on their love story that ended far too soon.

1. They met on set of Bullets Over Broadway.

In June, Kloots filled everyone in on the romantic story of how her and Cordero met. Turns out their relationship began as friends. Originally from Ohio, Kloots moved to New York City, where she spent nearly two decades performing on Broadway, touring, and appearing in films and TV shows. It was on Broadway where she first met Cordero.

“At 32, I went through an unexpected divorce, felt completely lost and terrified for my future,” Kloots wrote in an Instagram caption. She was cast in Bullets Over Broadway in 2014, where she met Cordero, who earned a Tony nomination for his role in the play. “We were friends first and then fell in love,” she wrote. The couple started officially dating in 2015, and moved in together in 2016.

2. They got married in 2017.

After dating for two years, Kloots and Cordero tied the knot on September 3, 2017. They got married in New York City had had their reception at The Skylark. Kloots shared a number of photos and videos from the special day, including a clip of their first dance. She looked stunning in her white lace gown, and had a photoshoot at The Plaza Hotel.

On the one-year anniversary of their wedding day, Kloots shared a stunning photo of the two in New York City. “Celebrating our 1 year anniversary today!! I wish I could go back in time to this day!” she wrote in the caption.

3. They had an adventurous honeymoon.

In July 2018, the newlyweds embarked on their honeymoon, in which they traveled to multiple destinations throughout Europe, Africa, and Asia. Kloots and Cordero started out in Capri, Italy, where they boated around the crystal blue Mediterranean and enjoyed beautiful sunsets.

They then visited the Western Cape of Africa and Tanzania and got to bathe in salt baths, tour vineyards, and explore exceptional views. But the trip didn’t end there: The couple headed to Bali as their final destination before heading home. Truly, this vacation looked like a dream.

3. They had their first child in summer of 2019.

After returning home from their honeymoon, Kloots announced she was pregnant in November 2018. “WE ARE HAVING A BABY!!!” she wrote to Instagram alongside a photo of the two wearing matching shirts. “Baby Cordero coming June 9th! We couldn’t be more thankful today for this amazing blessing in our lives! Happy Thanksgiving everyone!!!”

“We’ve always wanted to be parents, so this is the greatest gift,” Cordero wrote on his own page.

On June 10, 2019, baby Elvis arrived. Kloots shared the news to Instagram with a photo of her, Cordero, and a newborn Elvis. “Introducing Elvis Eduardo Cordero! Arrived at 6:41am this morning. 7lbs and 15oz,” she wrote. “We are so in love with him already! 💙 56 hour labor but mama and baby boy are doing great!”

4. They moved to L.A. together.

In a recent Instagram, Kloots said Cordero had always dreamed of buying a home in L.A. and raising Elvis there, so the couple packed their bags and moved to California.

Kloots shared a photo of their new home in February 2020. “Our first family photo in our new home, before we start renovations! We walked in yesterday for the first time feeling so incredibly grateful,” she said. “I’ve been told you never forget your first home. It’s where Elvis will take his first steps and say his first words.”

5. She stayed by his side until his last breath.

Since Cordero was admitted to the hospital with COVID-19 in March, Kloots did not leave her husband’s side. Even when she was not physically allowed in the hospital room, Kloots found ways to comfort him and show her support. The fitness instructor continuously shared updates on his progress throughout his journey, and strove to remain positive the entire time.

When Cordero passed away, Kloots shared a heartbreaking Instagram post revealing the news and honoring her late husband. “I am in disbelief and hurting everywhere. My heart is broken as I cannot imagine our lives without him,” she wrote. “Nick was such a bright light. He was everyone’s friend, loved to listen, help and especially talk. He was an incredible actor and musician. He loved his family and loved being a father and husband. Elvis and I will miss him in everything we do, every day.”

She went on to thank the essential workers who cared for him and also everyone who supported them while Cordero fought for his life.

“You have no idea how much you lifted my spirits at 3 p.m. every day as the world sang Nick’s song, ‘Live Your Life,’” she wrote. “We sang it to him today, holding his hands. As I sang the last line to him, ‘they’ll give you hell but don’t you light them kill your light not without a fight. Live your life,’ I smiled because he definitely put up a fight. I will love you forever and always my sweet man.”
