DRACUT — A 17-year-old Tewksbury boy is facing several felony charges in connection with an alleged carjacking on Saturday.

According to a press release from Dracut Police, the teen was arraigned Monday in Lowell Juvenile Court on charges of assault with a dangerous weapon on a person over 60, armed kidnapping, assault with a dangerous weapon and armed carjacking.

Police responded to the area of 2083 Bridge St. at about 8:30 a.m. Saturday for a report of an attempted carjacking with a firearm.

Police determined through an investigation that the teen, wearing a long fur coat, allegedly approached a man who was pumping gas at the gas station, showed a firearm and demanded the keys to the vehicle. The owner of the vehicle declined to provide his keys, police said, and the suspect left the area in another vehicle.

At about 10:15 a.m., another man who came to the Dracut Police station reported he had been kidnapped at gunpoint by a male, who was later allegedly identified as the juvenile, the release states.

Police determined that the juvenile had left the gas station in an Uber vehicle, whose driver had picked the teen up elsewhere on Bridge Street, according to the press release. The 17-year-old allegedly demanded the driver drive him around the area at gunpoint, eventually allowing him to refuel at the Bridge Street gas station, where the juvenile is believed to have then attempted to carjack the other man.

There were no reported injuries, police said.

The 17-year-old, who is known to police, later turned himself in, the release states.
