20 Drivers Killed In Georgia Christmas-Weekend Car Accidents

In addition to 20 fatalities from auto accidents over the Christmas weekend, Georgia reported 173 DUI arrests and 4,347 speeding tickets.

GEORGIA β€” Twenty people died in 18 fatal car accidents over the 2020 Christmas holiday weekend, according to the Georgia Department of Public Safety.

The Georgia State Patrol reported 11 of the fatalities. The other nine were handled by local police departments in Atlanta, Clayton County, Cobb County, DeKalb County, Fayette County, Gwinnett County and Warner Robins.

In addition, Georgia State troopers and officers arrested 173 people for driving under the influence, while issuing 7,259 citations and 9,815 warnings.

Other citations issued include:

  • 4,347 for speeding
  • 485 for seat belts
  • 344 for distracted driving
  • 130 for child restraints

This year, the holiday travel period was 78 hours long, starting at 6 p.m. on Thursday and ending just before midnight on Sunday.
