Trump Forces Puerto Rico's Governor to Tell Him How Great He Is

Puerto Rican Governor Ricardo Rossello was strong-armed by President Trump into publicly fawning over the White House response to Hurricane Maria when he met with Trump in the Oval Office on Thursday.

“Did the United States, did our government—when we came in—did we do a great job? Military, first responders, FEMA. Did we do a great job?” Trump asked/demanded of Rossello, after already having assessed his own post-hurricane performance as a “10.”

“You responded immediately, sir,” Rossello answered without hesitating, clearly ready for what has become a hallmark of Trump’s presidency: Using his position of power to essentially force anyone beneath him to publicly kowtow to his magnanimity.

As Russello was busy thanking Trump for the administration’s hard work, just 20% of Puerto Rico had electrical power, and nearly 30% of Puerto Ricans were still without access to clean drinking water.
