NEW YORK, NY — Longtime WNYC radio host and reporter Richard Hake died on Friday, according to the news outlet.
Hake, 51, had worked for WNYC since 1992 and was host of the popular show Morning Edition. His family said that he died of natural causes, according to WNYC.
"For all of us at New York Public Radio and in WNYC’s listening community, Richard was one of the first voices we heard every morning," CEO Goli Sheikholeslami said in a statement to New York Public Radio staff.
" As the host of Morning Edition, he brought us the news, welcomed the new day, and helped us get ready for whatever lay ahead. It was the position he always wanted, and he worked very hard to get there."
Hake was a host, reporter and producer at WNYC in his 28 years with the radio outlet.
Sheikholeslami said the newsroom is planning a tribute for the longtime host. Memories about Hake are being gathered on the WNYC Facebook page.
Hake graduated from Fordham University and previously worked at WFUV FM before joining WNYC, according to Public Radio outlet Gothamist. His work was also broadcast on nationally syndicated shows like Weekend Edition and All Things Considered.
