Meghan Markle really is living the life. She's a successful actress who's starred in one of the most popular legal dramas around for the past six years, and she's now engaged to be married to none other than Prince Harry.

But while the world looks on, getting giddy with excitement about the Spring 2018 wedding, there's actually a lot more to the couple's decision to wed than we'd like to think.

Because when Meghan does marry Prince Harry and becomes legit British Royalty, she'll have to make quite a few sacrifices. The biggest one being her career.

Prior to marrying Prince William, Kate Middleton had worked as an accessories buyer for retailer Jigsaw and then as a project manager for her family's event planning business. But upon becoming the Duchess of Cambridge, Kate gave all that up - and Meghan will most likely expected to do the same.

Being a senior member of the royal family is a full-time job, and it requires those who do it to patron charities, represent the UK on an international scale and generally maintain the traditions of the royal family. How would she balance all that with a full-time acting role on Suits?

Well, she won't have to. Kensington Palace's official engagement revealed the couple will be living together in Nottingham House at Kensington Palace, London. And that's pretty far away from Toronto, where Suits is filmed. So it looks like previous speculation that Meghan had quit her job playing paralegal Rachel Zane on the American drama was correct.

But according to a source from the Daily Star Sunday, "Meghan knows she can’t really act at the same time as being a princess and is happy to make this career sacrifice. She really enjoys her charity work with Unicef and will broaden out her charity commitments when she becomes a full-time royal."

And looking back, it seems Meghan has been preparing to wind down her existing career to focus on philanthropy and everything she'll be doing as a Royal for some time now. Earlier this year, Meghan shut down her lifestyle website, The Tig.

A letter on the site explaining the site's closure didn't exactly give a reason behind the decision to stop publishing, but fans believed it was a sign she was ready to embark on the next chapter of her life.

The letter read: "After close to three beautiful years on this adventure with you, it's time to say goodbye to The Tig. What began as a passion project (my little engine that could) evolved into an amazing community of inspiration, support, fun and frivolity. You've made my days brighter and filled this experience with so much joy. Keep finding those Tig moments of discovery, keep laughing and taking risks, and keep being 'the change you wish to see in the world'."

So with this major life change coming hand-in-hand with agreeing to marry Prince Harry, you can see why making plans to say 'I do' will have been a big decision for Meghan. It's exactly the reason Prince William says he waited so long to ask for Kate Middleton's hand in marriage back in 2010.

Speaking at the time, he said he "wanted to give her a chance to see in and to back out if she needed to before it all got too much."

And while Meghan will become a Royal when she and Harry tie the knot, the Prince's new wife won't automatically become a Princess. It's more likely the couple would become a Duke and Duchess, just like William and Kate, with current predictions suggesting they'd adopt the titles of Duke and Duchess of Sussex, or Duke and Duchess of Buckingham, both of which are currently vacant.

Oh, we've got an exciting few months to come.
