Blackboard Moving To Reston

The Northern Virginia tech corridor has a new virtual powerhouse locating its headquarters there.

RESTON, VA — Virtual education company Blackboard announced that it will be moving its headquarters from D.C. to Reston. The move will take place sometime in 2019.

The new office will be located at Plaza America shopping center and will consolidate operations that had been split between the D.C. office on 19th Street NW and Reston.

Company officials said they looked at value, transportation and amenities in determining to move the headquarters from the District.

"The new office space offers a rich and dynamic environment for our employees as well as convenient access to dining and shopping and easy access to major commuter routes, public transportation and Dulles International Airport," Blackboard Chairman, CEO and President Bill Ballhaus said in a statement. "We are excited to bring our Metro D.C. area workforce together into a new global headquarters in the vibrant Northern Virginia tech corridor."

Reston's Plaza America complex is 6 miles from Dulles International Airport, a short distance from the Wiehle-Reston East Metro Station, close to shopping and dining and less than a mile to the Reston Town Center, officials said.
