Boys Found With Defaced Guns, Arrested: Police

The teens were taken into custody after a traffic stop in Harvard.

A 16-year-old boy and a 17-year-old boy were both arrested after police found them in possession of alcohol and defaced guns during a traffic stop in Harvard.

Harvard Deputy Police Chief Tyson Bauman said that officers conducted a traffic stop on a 2008 Chrysler around 12:02 a.m. Monday.

Officers stopped the Chrysler as it was driving near the intersection of South Ayer Street and West Brink Street for an equipment violation.

The driver of the vehicle, a 17-year-old juvenile, was arrested after officers found him driving without a valid driver’s license.

The juvenile was issued citations for loud excessive noise from a muffler and driving without a valid driver’s license.

He was also issued a settlement of fines citation for unlawful possession of an alternative nicotine product by a person under 18, Bauman said.

The 17-year-old was criminally charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, defacing identification marks on a firearm and unlawful possession of alcohol by a minor.

A passenger in the vehicle, identified as a 16-year-old juvenile, was also arrested. He was criminally charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, defacing identification marks on a firearm and unlawful possession of alcohol by a minor.

The 16-year-old was also issued a settlement of fines citation for unlawful possession of an alternative nicotine product by a person under 18.

The 16-year-old and 17-year-old were both petitioned to McHenry County Court Services and released to their parents, Bauman said.
