Dale McRaven, creator of Perfect Strangers and Mork & Mindy, dies of complications from lung cancer at 83

Emmy-nominated producer Dale McRaven - who created Perfect Strangers and Mork & Mindy - died on September 5 at age 83.

Dale - born on an Illinois farm - passed away due to complications from lung cancer at his Porter Ranch home in Los Angeles, according to THR.

McRaven also created ABC sitcoms The Texas Wheelers and Angie as well as writing for CBS' The Dick Van Dyke Show, NBC's The Joey Bishop Show, and ABC's The Partridge Family.

The Garry Marshall protégé helped discover Robin Williams (Mork & Mindy), Bronson Pinchot (Perfect Strangers), Mark Hamill (The Texas Wheelers), and Gary Busey (The Texas Wheelers).

Dale - who moved to Hollywood in 1957 - sold his first script to The Steve Allen Show in the sixties.

McRaven also wrote for Gomer Pyle: USMC; That Girl; Hey, Landlord; The Odd Couple; Good Morning World; Get Smart; Room 222; Love, American Style; and The Betty White Show.

In the nineties, the digital artist retired from television so he could focus on recovering from throat cancer and prostate cancer (at the same time) - according to his niece Grissy G.

Dale then embarked on a second career as a professional photographer shooting wildlife and weather in USA national parks, Africa, Bali, Indonesia, and the South Pole.

McRaven is survived by his son David, daughter Renee, daughter-in-law Ruth, grandchildren Justin and Matthew, niece Grissy G., her husband Dismas, and their daughter Nefertina.
