Mobile-based CBS affiliate WKRG-TV5 and Chief Meteorologist Alan Sealls have parted ways, according to a video announcement Sealls made Tuesday afternoon on Facebook.
Sealls said he’d been off the air recently due to vacation time and other factors, but that he and station management had been unable to come to terms on a contract renewal.
"I no longer work at WKRG," he said in the video, shot in downtown Mobile's Mardi Gras Park. "We were too far apart on what we both needed. And that's the way things go. It wasn't my plan, not what I wanted, but I'm okay with that, that is life."
WKRG’s General Manager, Jesse Grear, confirmed the split. The station wanted to keep Sealls on board and had offered a long-term contract, he said, but the parties couldn’t agree on terms.
Sealls thanked supporters for his 20 years at the station and stressed that he planned to remain active both in the community and as a meteorologist.
Sealls' departure follows the exit of longtime anchor Mel Showers, who retired this spring after a 50-year career at the station.
