BOSTON — Delta Airlines is suspending flights this week to 10 airports across the country, including Manchester-Boston Regional Airport in New Hampshire and T.F. Green International Airport in Providence, Rhode Island, due to the coronavirus pandemic.

"The safety of our employees and customers remains our primary focus as we navigate these challenges together," said Delta's Sandy Gordon, senior vice president of domestic airport operations, in a statement. "By consolidating operations while customer traffic is low, we can allow more of our people to stay home in accordance with local health guidelines."

The airline will cease flights to Manchester and Providence May 13. Instead, travelers will have to fly out of Boston's Logan Airport. The suspensions will continue until at least September.

The move comes as Delta has had an 85 percent cut in service this quarter.

The airline has also suspended flights to Chicago Midway, Oakland, Hollywood Burbank, Long Beach, Westchester, Stewart, Akron-Canton, and Newport News/Williamsburg. The airline filed a request with the U.S. Department of Transportation to consolidate operations in another nine cities served by multiple airports. That request is still under review.
