Stunning video taken Thursday night outside Houston appears to show lightning striking the same spot for about 10 seconds.
However, impressive as the storm’s light show was, it’s not all that uncommon a phenomena.
“Lightning does hit the same spot (or almost the same spot) more than once, contrary to folk wisdom. It could be simply a statistical fluke or it could also be that something about the site makes it somewhat more likely to be struck,” the National Severe Storms Laboratory’s website states.
The NWS added some areas got as much as six inches of rain during the heavy deluge.
The video, captured by KHOU 11 Reporter Brett Buffington, shows lightning striking the same spot 11 times. Buffington said he believes it was striking a nearby shed, but there has been no news of injuries or property damage.
Buffington said he shot the video on high speed so the lightning appears slower than it actually was.
