The Yankees Brett Gardner was expected to report to spring training on Monday, but, apparently, readying himself for the 2020 season isn’t the only thing on his mind.
The long-time outfielder has asked his lawyer to file an order of protection to keep an obsessed fan away from him and his family, according reports on NJ.com and the New York Post.
Gardner’s lawyer filed the order of protection at a Bronx civil court late last week against Gina Devasahayam. The 36-year-old woman has claims Gardner sends her sexual ‘signals’ from the field and that she is his ‘future wife.’
Gardner not only wants Devasahayam banned from Yankee Stadium, but from all MLB ballparks.
The reports say Gardner and Devasahayam have never met each other, but the 46-year-old Devasahayam is no stranger to the outfielder. Last August, she attempted to sneak into the Yankees’ clubhouse at Camden Yards in Baltimore before being escorted out of the stadium from security.
In addition, she was kicked out of Yankee Stadium after trying to get into a playoff game last October.
Oddly, the woman who claims to be a biotech entrepreneur responded by suing the Yankees, Gardner and MLB.
Why did she sue?
“I request the Court to grant me access to the Stadium in accordance with MLB fan policy and also in accordance with ‘Significant other’ of MLB player Brett Gardner,” the lawsuit said. “I am a Yankees fan and also the future wife of Brett Gardner.”
The report said when a NJ Advance reporter reminded her during an interview that Gardner was married, she was hardly fazed.
“That is not of importance,” Devasahayam said before referencing the state of Gardner’s marriage.
Gardner didn’t respond to a message by NJ Advance Media. Gardner’s agent, Pro Star Management’s Joe Bick, and the Yankees declined to give a comment as well.
