To the delight of many vegetarians, Taco Bell is bringing potatoes back to its menu later this year.

The restaurant’s CEO, Mark King, made the announcement on Twitter Thursday. Potatoes will return to the Taco Bell menu on March 11, King said.

“It’s a new year with new possibilities,” King said in the tweet, in which his facial features were embedded in a potato. “And you know what? We’re bringing them back.”

Taco Bell went to drive-through only service for a period last year because of the coronavirus pandemic, which King said created longer lines and put more demand on restaurant staff. The restaurant had to simplify its menu to remedy those issues and decided to remove potatoes.

That didn’t go over well with a lot of vegetarians, who urged the restaurant to bring them back.

King also said the restaurant will be expanding its vegetarian menu options this year.

“This year we’re going big on our vegetarian menu. We’re going above and beyond,” King said with a wink.

People on Twitter expressed immediate joy over the news.
