Staten Island Ferry named best place to cry in New York City

Ferry sadness

Want to cry in public? Go no further than the Staten Island Ferry, says Curbed New York's editors. The ride is 25 minutes -- and it's free.

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Finally, Staten Island has something the rest of the city doesn’t: The best place to shed tears.

In a city dominated by diverse food options, Broadway, tourist attractions, Central Park and increasingly high property values (and rents), the free-to-ride vessel that connects Staten Island and Manhattan is the greatest spot to cry, according to the editors at Curbed New York.

If only they rode our only train, right?

For those wondering why the Staten Island Ferry topped the listicle: “... there’s something oddly romantic about weeping quietly to yourself on a boat as it glides across New York Harbor,” Curbed wrote. “The Statue of Liberty provides a rather cinematic background, too.”

Great! Just avoid the tourists so you don’t become part of their Instagram Stories.

The boat led a list that included tear-friendly confines like the entire West Village, Strand Bookstore, the Bryant Park bathrooms, The Met and Green-Wood Cemetery: “Well, you won’t look out of place if you’re weeping here — it is a cemetery, after all,” Curbed noted.
