Biden campaign: ‘Desperate’ Trump lying about money he doesn’t have

President Biden’s reelection campaign bashed former President Trump on Monday for claiming he has the cash to pay a $175 million bond in his civil fraud case, and brushing off the prospect that a conviction in another case could cost him the election.

Trump scored a major win in New York appeals court earlier in the day when judges paused the enforcement of the $464 million judgment against Trump, the Trump Organization and top executives if they post a $175 million bond within 10 days.

But a New York judge rejected efforts from Trump and his legal team to postpone Trump’s hush money trial, which is set to begin April 15. It will be the first of the former president’s four criminal cases to go to trial, and it will begin nearly six months before election day.

“Donald Trump is weak and desperate – both as a man and a candidate for President,” Biden spokesperson James Singer said in a statement.

“He spent the weekend golfing, the morning comparing himself to Jesus, and the afternoon lying about having money he definitely doesn’t have. His campaign can’t raise money, he is uninterested in campaigning outside his country club, and every time he opens his mouth, he pushes moderate and suburban voters away with his dangerous agenda,” Singer said.

“America deserves better than a feeble, confused, and tired Donald Trump.”

Biden also trolled Trump on Sunday for boasting about winning two golf trophies at his own golf club’s awards. Biden and the campaign have also deemed Trump “Broke Don” after his fundraising numbers have been lagging the incumbent’s.

Earlier Monday, Trump shared a Bible verse with a message he said he received: “It’s ironic that Christ walked through His greatest persecution the very week they are trying to steal your property from you.”

Speaking after the hush money hearing, Trump said he had “a lot of cash” when asked how he would pay the $175 million bond. His lawyers had previously said he was unable to pay the $464 million bond, thought Trump claimed he could have.

During the press conference, Trump suggested a conviction in the hush money case could actually make him more popular. He also claimed, without evidence, that Biden was responsible for his legal problems and said, “It’s a Biden trial. There is no trial.”

Trump is charged in the New York case with 34 counts of falsifying business records of reimbursements to his then-fixer, Michael Cohen, who paid porn actress Stormy Daniels $130,000 just before the 2016 election to stay quiet about an alleged affair with Trump.
