More Drenching Storms, Coastal Flood Watch On The Way

Rain, rain and more rain could continue until next week, National Weather Service says

OCEAN COUNTY, NJ - If you were hoping to see the sun anytime soon, it's time to lower your expectations.

The National Weather Service is calling for rain today and heavier rain tonight and tomorrow, even into the weekend. Between two to five inches of rain are possible, depending upon the severity and length of possible thunderstorms, the NWS says

"Periods of light to moderate rain will continue today, and then heavier rainfall will move into the area later tonight," the NWS says. "Periods of moderate to heavy rain will persist through at least Friday night, and possibly into the weekend."

And if the rain wasn't enough, the weather service has isssued both coastal and flash flood watches

Widespread minor coastal flooding could occur with the Friday evening/night high tide cycle.

Flash flooding is also possible, especially if thunderstorms repeatedly move over the same area. locations. Torrential thunderstorms can produce a large amount of flooding in a short period of time.

Here's the soggy itinerary through the weekend:

Today
Showers and possibly a thunderstorm, mainly before 5 p.m., then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 5 p.m. High near 66. North wind around 6 miles per hour. The chance of precipitation is 100 percent.New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch are possible.

Tonight
Showers, mainly after 8 p.m. The rain could be heavy at times. Patchy fog. Low around 56. East wind around 5 miles per hour,becoming calm in the evening. Chance of precipitation is 80 percent.New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Friday
Showers. The rain could be heavy at times. High near 61. Breezy, with a northeast wind 14 to 23 miles per hour, with gusts as high as 33 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90 percent. New precipitation amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.

Friday Night
Showers. The rain could be heavy at times. Low around 54. Breezy, with an east wind 17 to 21 miles per hour. Chance of precipitation is 100 percent. New precipitation amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.

Saturday
Occasional showers before 11 a.m., then occasional showers and possibly a thunderstorm between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m., then occasional showers after 5 p.m. High near 72. East wind 9 to 14 miles per hour, becoming south in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 80 percent.. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Saturday Night
A chance of showers, with thunderstorms also possible after 8 p.m. Cloudy, with a low around 62. Chance of precipitation is 50 percent. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Sunday
A chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 79. Chance of precipitation is 40 percent

Sunday Night
Partly cloudy, with a low around 62.
