DETROIT -- Detroit Tigers center fielder JaCoby Jones left Wednesday's game in the third inning after hurting himself while trying to beat out an infield hit.

The Tigers said Jones suffered a left hip contusion.

Jones led off the bottom of the first with a hard grounder to third. He appeared to land awkwardly on or near the bag as he was racing down to first base.

He jogged gingerly back to the dugout and then went down the clubhouse tunnel with Tigers head athletic trainer Doug Teter.

Jones came out to play center field in the second inning but was replaced in the third.

Victor Reyes entered the game to play left field, shifting Mikie Mahtook to center.

Jones, 26, entered the game hitting .254/.301/.429 in 37 games for the Tigers this year. He has nine doubles, two triples and three home runs.
