A police car that had the green light struck a woman at an intersection near Reston Town Center, police say.
RESTON, VA — A woman who may have been under the influence of alcohol crossed the street against the pedestrian crossing signal and was struck by a police car near Reston Town Center over the weekend, police say.
It happened at around 2 a.m. Sunday, when a police supervisor from the Reston District Station was driving southbound on Reston Parkway approaching the intersection of Sunset Hills Road, according to a report from the Fairfax County Police Department.
"The officer had the green traffic signal and was continuing straight through the intersection when a 42-year-old woman walked into the roadway against the pedestrian crossing signal and was struck," the report states. "The woman was taken to a local hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries and the officer was uninjured."

Police say it does not appear speed or alcohol were factors for the officer, but alcohol "may have been a factor for the pedestrian."
The incident happened near where a pedestrian was struck fatally in May 2018.
