Here's when the Lake County Sheriff's office 10-week spring course will take place.

LAKE COUNTY, IL — The public is invited to participate in the Lake County Sheriff's office 2020 Citizens Police Academy, scheduled to take place 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday evenings, beginning April 2 and ending June 4. In a news release, the sheriff's office said it's now accepting applications for the 10-week spring course, during which classes will be held primarily in Libertyville and Waukegan. The sheriff's office community policing initiative is offered to educate the community, in addition to strengthening safety throughout the county, the sheriff's office said.

  • The course is free to Lake County residents.
  • The course is offered to provide insight into the Lake County Sheriff's office, including the judicial process.
  • Participants must be 18 years of age or older, of "good moral character and have no felony convictions," the sheriff's office said.

Applications are available at 25 S. Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue in Waukegan or online. The deadline for applications is March 16.
