WAFF 48 Huntsville reporter Allen Stroud, 31, died Sunday, almost a year after being diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer, the station announced.

Stroud, a Madison native and Auburn graduate, had been with the station since 2013.

“The 48 Team loved Allen,” WAFF 48 General Manager Dave Thomason said. “He embraced hard work and loved to laugh with his co-workers. They loved him for being authentic and kind.”

Stroud was diagnosed in March after being ill for several months. Initially told he had pneumonia, he was later diagnosed with non-small cell lung cancer, the most common type of lung cancer.

In August, Stroud said his initial treatments didn’t work as well as doctors hoped so had begun a new round of medication in July as part of a clinical trial.

Funeral arrangements have not been announced.
