Mets vs. Marlins: Steven Matz’s Citi Field dominance will continue

The Emmy Awards were handed out Sunday night. Two of my favorite shows, “Inside City Hall” (comedy) and “Bad Beats” (therapy) walked away empty handed. … You better sit down for this. Ready? The Padres fired Andy Green.

So it’s simple. The Mets will have to sweep the Marlins and hope the Nats or Brewers have bad weeks in order to stay alive for the final weekend. Easy. Steven Matz is 10-9 on year, but 7-1 with an ERA of 1.94 at Citi Field. Miami, eliminated sometime in May, chose to give manager Don Mattingly an extension, which bodes well for Stitches’ future. Caleb Smith is a respectable 9-10 pitching for the worst team in the NL and is 2-0 against the Mets. Not tonight. Play 20 units on the do-or-die Mets.

This one was over before Trent Thornton got in the game. Aaron Judge and Brett Gardner took Wilmer Font deep in the opening frame. Thornton, already down 4-0, was no better and the Yankees clipped the Jays 8-3. After losing our past three games by a combined 24-4, we deserve to be down -674 pepitones.
