New York rapper Benny the Butcher was shot in the leg during an attempted robbery at a Texas parking lot over the weekend, authorities said.

The Buffalo performer, whose real name is Jeremie Pennick, had just parked his Rolls Royce outside a Walmart in Houston on Saturday afternoon when five masked crooks approached him and his two passengers and demanded their chains, according to police.

The trio began taking off their jewelry, but one of the suspects apparently didn’t think they were moving fast enough and opened fire, striking the rapper in the leg, Houston Police spokeswoman Jodi Silva told news outlets Sunday.

Pennick, who’s part of the hip-hop group Griselda, was taken to the hospital in stable condition. He posted a short video on Instagram Monday morning showing him boarding a small plane on crutches.

The two people who were with him in the car were not shot.

The suspects fled the scene before police arrived and remained at large Monday. Police have not released a description of the suspects but said they were last seen in a Chevy Malibu.

The 35-year-old rapper released his second studio album, “Burden of Proof,” just weeks ago. He also has a management deal with Roc Nation, the entertainment agency founded by Jay-Z.

Pennick was at least the third rapper shot in Texas last week. The latest incident came hours after hip-hop artist Boosie Badazz was shot in the leg in Dallas and three days after rapper Mo3 was shot dead on a Dallas highway.

Authorities said there is no evidence connecting the three shootings.
