Uncle Julio's Suing Reston Town Center For $5 Million: Report

The Tex-Mex restaurant alleges that they have lost $1 million in sales annually since paid parking started.

RESTON, VA -- Uncle Julio's has sued Reston Town Center for "at least" $5 million due to the paid parking system that the restaurant chain alleges has cost them $1 million in sales each year, according to a report.

The Washington Business Journal reports that the lawsuit, filed Dec. 21, claims that paid parking when it was implemented in January 2017 was "onerous" for its customers, as it does not allow them to pay in cash and validation codes often don't work right.

Uncle Julio's has sued Boston Properties, the manager of Reston Town Center, for breach of contract and conspiracy, according to the report.

It's not the first court battle over the paid parking system. Jackson's Mighty Find Food & Lucky Lounge successfully sued Boston Properties over the ParkRTC system a few months after it was implemented.

Jackson's claims they negotiated very clear lease terms with BXP that prohibits the developer from implementing parking controls that would "unduly impede" guests, and requires that BXP "must allow Jackson's to validate parking, at no expense to Jackson's."
