SYDNEY — If you believe Australia's leaders, the local coronavirus vaccination drive is ramping up fast and the country is leading the world out of the pandemic.

There’s one big problem: The country does not have remotely near enough doses.

“We’re ready to go — that’s the clear message when it comes to rolling out this vaccine,” Prime Minister Scott Morrison said in mid-February. “We have been preparing, we have been planning, we have been dotting the I’s and crossing the T’s.”
