MAHWAH, NJ — An Allendale police officer from Mahwah is suspended without pay after he was charged with hindering apprehension, according to authorities.

Victor Bartoloma, 35, stands accused of providing his personal vehicle to a driver involved in a Sunday car crash, so that the driver could leave the scene, Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella said.

He had then, the prosecutor alleged, lied to a Ridgewood police officer about his involvement, explaining that he was the driver, when, security video revealed, he had not even been present at the time of the crash.

An eyewitness also said he was not the driver involved, the prosecutor's office said.

Bartoloma was charged with second-degree hindering apprehension, and released pending an initial court appearance, the prosecutor's office said.
