‘Spread holiday cheer, not gonorrhea,’ Canadian health officials warn

This will definitely land you on the “naughty” list.

Health officials in a Canadian province are warning revelers not to engage in risky sexual behavior during the holidays.

“This holiday season spread holiday cheer, not #gonorrhea,” read an ad posted on Twitter by the New Brunswick Department of Health on Tuesday.

New Brunswick has been experiencing an outbreak of the sexually transmitted disease, with 96 cases in 2018 compared to 54 cases during the entire previous half a decade, the CBC reported.

“That was a big wake-up call that we had a problem and we needed to act,” Dr. Jennifer Russell, chief medical officer of health, told the outlet.

The ad campaign from the health department is already working, Russell said.

“We’re seeing an increase in testing across the province, and that’s very encouraging,” she said.
