After joining the Woburn-based firm eight years ago, Crowley advanced to the role of Suburban Division grounds team leader, which saw him responsible for managing all planting, paving, concrete work, landscaping, and other outdoor maintenance and improvements at the firm’s holdings in nine of the 11 communities it serves. In his new position, he will assist in overseeing all construction and maintenance activity across Cummings’ 2.3 million-square-foot portfolio in Beverly.

“Scott has a diverse knowledge of sitework, sound ideas and insights, and a natural talent for mentoring,” said VP of field operations Greg Ahearn. “His ability to think quickly on his feet and adapt to changing circumstances makes him a strong fit for this management role.”

The chance to recognize Crowley’s continued development came on the heels of a colleague’s departure. His promotion, in turn, led to the advancement of a member of his team, who stepped forward to fill the vacant grounds team leader position.

“Given the talent and dedication among the Cummings team, we place a strong emphasis on promoting from within,” said Cummings Properties chairman and CEO Dennis Clarke. “Often, when a leadership role opens up, it not only offers an opportunity for one colleague to grow professionally but also causes a chain reaction when that individual’s role must then be filled.”

Since its founding in 1970, Cummings Properties has frequently drawn on internal talent when opportunities for advancement arise. Among its 360 employees, the average tenure is 10 years. The firm has in-house expertise in a variety of disciplines, including all of the construction trades, plus architecture, engineering, sales, graphic design, accounting, and legal.

“Tradespeople make up a full 75 percent of our staff,” said Clarke. “And with current colleagues continuously expanding their skills and moving up the ranks, we are always seeking talented, hardworking people to join our team.”

Cummings Properties’ portfolio of 10 million square feet of prime space accommodates offices, healthcare facilities, labs, restaurants, retail storefronts, warehouses, executive suites, and more.
