Meghan Markle, Prince Harry slammed over Kate Middleton birthday post

Royal watchers aren’t just fuming over Meghan Markle and Prince Harry quitting the royal family.

On Thursday, Kensington Palace’s official Instagram account posted a birthday message to Kate Middleton, who turned 38 on Jan. 9.”Thank you everyone for all your lovely messages on The Duchess of Cambridge’s birthday!” the caption read alongside a portrait of Kate, taken by photographer Matt Porteous.

In addition to the messages that Kate received from fans, Meghan and Harry’s Sussex Royal handle also sent the Duchess well wishes on her special day, writing, “Wishing a very happy birthday to The Duchess of Cambridge today!” The comment didn’t sit well with followers after Wednesday’s bombshell announcement.

“You clearly don’t care about her birthday since you overshadowed the day by this big announcement, just like you did Princess Eugenie’s wedding when you announced your pregnancy,” user @amy_simmons_ commented.

“Dear Harry, dear Meghan, why don’t you withdraw completely? Give up your titles and work like all other normal people! You can not do what you want and still ask the taxpayer for money! It’s so disrespectful to the family, don’t spit on the hand that feeds you!!!” @traeumerin1983 posted.

“Wishing ya very happy birthday to HRH THE DUCHESS OF CAMBRIDGE today! (Fixed it for you … you’re welcome),” @hegel_healing wrote.

Despite the onslaught of backlash the Sussexes received, some fans offered messages of support.

“I’m sorry the two of you can’t do anything right by the public opinion. Just know that there are those of us who love and support your decision. Absorb our energy and kindness and forget the rest,” @reddvelez replied.

“WE LOVE YOU HARRY AND MEGHAN,” @duchesse_meghan responded.

Though Meghan, 38, and Harry, 35, also have friend Jessica Mulroney in their corner, it appears Buckingham Palace is still reeling from the news.

“Discussions with The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are at an early stage,” a statement from the palace read. “We understand their desire to take a different approach, but these are complicated issues that will take time to work through.”

Harry’s father and older brother, Prince Charles and Prince William, were said to be “incandescent with rage” over the highly publicized departure.
