ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — The Roanoke Valley has a new comic book store and people are already flocking to the shelves!

Big Lick Comics held its grand opening on Saturday, April 3. The store is located at the 3400 block of Orange Avenue.

Owner J.D. Sutphin says people were so excited, that some waited in the parking lot 45 minutes before the doors opened. A line was also seen outside the shop Saturday morning.

When inside the comic book store, people are immediately immersed into the world of action and storytelling.

The business offers items from comics — old and new — to action figures and toy sets.

Sutphin says local reaction has been unbelievable.

“There’s just so many things that’s inspired me since I was a kid that’s in this building, and to see whether it’s a Dad that might be a decade older than me reliving his childhood like I am right now, or seeing a kid flip out because there’s a life-sized Spiderman inside this store, it’s pure magic,” said Sutphin.

He hopes to inspire younger generations by getting kids to read more and to be more creative. Sutphin also plans to bring in comic book artists and other guests, each month.

The store is open Tuesdays through Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
