GRAND FORKS — A Vancouver, Washington woman is making a plea to people of Grand Forks.

Ali Dodd found a letter she's hoping to return home. Dodd was sifting through bins at Goodwill when she found it.

"You never know what you're going to find," said Dodd. "It says from Ft. Carson, Colorado and it's sent to Nanci Fortin, but it just says Grand Forks, North Dakota. It doesn't actually have an address for her."

The letter is from 1957 from a man named Gerald Fortin. He was in the military and writing home to his mom.

"He talks about doing calisthenics and his boots filled up with mud, and it's very cold. And it says 'How's the old school life treating you?'"

The cursive is difficult to read after years of wear. The letter isn't full of exciting details, but it doesn't matter to Dodd.

"If it was my grandpa I would really like to have it," said Dodd. She's hoping the Fortin family is still in Grand Forks and will contact her so she can send it to them.

"It just says see you later alligator, Jerry," said Dodd.

Update: Ali has been able to get the contact information for the man's daughter and will be sending the letter home to them. She says the person who had the letter moved to Portland, which is how the letter ended up at a goodwill there.
