A tractor-trailer carrying two horses flipped over on the Cross Bronx Expressway early Thursday, killing one of the animals, officials said.
The tractor trailer was nearing exit 9 near Harding Ave. in Throggs Neck when the driver lost control of the rig about 2 a.m. The truck careened off the road, overturned and slid for more than 100 yards before slamming into a divider, officials said.
Medics took the driver and a passenger to Jacobi Medical Center with minor injuries.
One horse died at the scene. Members of the NYPD Mounted Unit were called in with a horse trailer to take the surviving horse, a pony, to an undisclosed location for treatment.
Cops are still investigating what sparked the crash.
