The Oklahoma football team released a statement Friday morning on social media.

“The OU Football family is deeply saddened by the tragic passing of former player Du’Vonta Lampkin,” the team tweeted. “Du’Vonta was full of life and spirit, was a supportive teammate and a joy to be around. Our sincerest thoughts, prayers and sympathies are with his family and loved ones.”

Lampkin played defensive tackle for Oklahoma from 2015-17. In his final year in Norman, he appeared in 10 games, accumulating 13 solo tackles and nine assisted tackles.

Lampkin left school early after his redshirt sophomore year but was not selected in the 2018 NFL Draft. He signed with the Titans that summer and was waived before the regular season.

Lampkin would later play one season with the Massachusetts Pirates of the Indoor Football League.
