South Dakota man gets 13 years for kitchen-knife stabbing

WINNER, S.D. — A Winner man was sentenced Thursday, Oct. 17, to 13 years in prison for stabbing a man in the back with a kitchen knife in April.

Jacob Antoine, 23, was initially charged with attempted murder but pleaded guilty to aggravated assault with a dangerous weapon on Sept. 19. Judge Bobbi Rank sentenced him to 15 years in prison with two years suspended and credit for the 186 days he spent in jail following his April 14 arrest.

The morning of April 13, police were called to a Winner trailer park and found the victim lying on his stomach with three stab wounds on the lower left side of his back, each about an inch wide.

According to court documents, the man said he had been at Sarrah Old Lodge's apartment on West 10th Street when he and Antoine got in a fight and Antoine got a knife from the kitchen and stabbed him. The victim had gotten out of the apartment and to get help at the trailer park where police found him before he was taken to the hospital.
