The owners of Ark Encounter, a Kentucky biblical theme park with a replica of Noah’s Ark, are suing their insurers after the property was damaged by rain.
Rainfall in 2017 and 2018 caused a “significant landslide” on the property, the suit alleges. The damage, estimated at $1 million, cut off an access road that leads to the 510-foot wooden ship.
According to the suit, the insurers assessed the damage and told Ark Encounter to proceed with repairs, but have since not paid out.
Ark Encounter spokesperson Melany Ethridge told CNN that reports of the damage were wildly overstated.
“Contrary to some reporting, the damage to certain areas of the Ark Encounter themed attraction was not caused by a ‘flood,’ ” she said in an email.
The theme park is seeking compensatory and punitive damages.
