UPDATE: The fatal crash that temporarily closed part of Highway 97 south of Summerland on Tuesday afternoon involved a man in his 60s riding a motorcycle.
B.C. RCMP Traffic Services said the collision occurred near Trout Creek at approximately 3:50 p.m.
“Upon arrival it was determined that a northbound motorcycle, operated by a man in his sixties from the Okanagan area, struck the raised median separating the north and south bound lanes, causing him to lose control and crash,” police said in a press release.
“The man died at the scene from catastrophic injuries. There were no other vehicles involved in the collision.”
Police say South Okanagan Traffic Services in Keremeos, the Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service and the BC Coroners’ Service are continue to investigate this crash to determine the exact cause.
Police added nothing has been ruled out at this time, and they are asking for witnesses, including those who may have dash camera video prior to the crash, to contact SOTS in Keremeos at 250-499-2250.

Highway 97 reopened at 7 p.m. following a fatal crash near Summerland on Tuesday afternoon.
It appears the crash involved a motorcycle.
The accident happened at approximately 3:50 p.m., near Lakeshore Drive South.
Traffic Services has since completed its investigation.
